Creating Your September Nature Journal: Ideas and Resources
If you haven’t added nature journaling to your homeschool, September is the time to start with my free printable! Creating a September nature journal is a wonderful way to teach children about the physical world that we live in, but it has many other benefits too.
Writing, art, science, drawing, math- even bible study and poetry – it can all be included in your nature journal. Below are a few sample September pages from my family’s journals.
September Quotes, Bible Verses and Poems
We might add quotes, bible verses, and poems about the month of September. We celebrate our Catholic liturgical year, so I like to include feast days and my family’s birthdays or baptism days.

Observations
We add observations of things that we see with our own eyes in the great outdoors. Nature journals are personal. Some of my kids love to draw, others prefer to make bulleted lists or even write paragraphs. Nature journals are personal.

Science
It is fun to include charts, graphs and illustrations of things we are learning in science.

Favorite Things
I like to include a scavenger hunt or favorite things page too. My kids look back at their favorite things from years past. It is a great way to relive past memories and share stories with each other.
I love the nature journals that my kids and I have created over the years.
Nature Journal Supplies

You can use any notebook for nature journalling but I really like these for my family. I also like to have some fun fine tipped markers that are only for work in our journals.
